People who are forward-thinking and advocte social reform.

Dual convergence
Tabloids and broadsheets borrow conventions form each genre in the use of media language and values so they increasingly resemble one another.

Platform
A material or digital form, service or method of delivering media to an audience.

ofcom is the regulator for the sommunications services that we use nd rely on each day. This covers regulation of broadband, WiFi, home phone and mobile services, as well as TV, On Demand and Radio.

Soft News
the term used to refer to journalism this is sensational, emotional and personal. It uses conventional language and is expressive.

Hard News
The term used to refer to journalism that is very serious, well written and balanced. It uses complex language.

Hegemony
The predominance of one social group over another. The idea of ideological hegemony is proposed in the work of GRamsci, a neo-Marxist who looked at the way in which ideology was used to rienforce the social power, through economic and political systems, of the elite ruling class over the subject or working classes.

Dominant Group
A sociological term used to refer to a social group that controls the value system in any given society. They may not be the largest social group in terms of size but the group is made up of the social identities that hold social, political and economic power, privileges and social status. It is generally considered that the dominant social groups within our society -using the key marlers of class, gender, age and ethnicity - are white. middle aged, middle class men, as this group dominate our social, economic and political value systems.

Journalism
The profession of writing for a newspaper, news website, news broadcast or magazine.

Academic Ideas
Critical ideas or theories written by academic researchers in a particular field or area of expertise. They help to develop understanding and knowledge about the specific topic they are written about.
